About CGI – Promise And Law
Promise and Law
THE PROMISE
Taken by Guides and Guiders is central to guiding. In making the promise one acknowledges the fundamental principles of Guiding and in so doing becomes a committed member of the world wide movement. Guiding personnel the world over make a similar Promise which unites them by a three part commitment to the same values and objectives:-
- The determination to seek spiritual fulfilment
- The agreement to contribute to society
- The acceptance of a simple code: the Guide Law.
The Cygnet, Brigin, Guide & Ranger Guide Promises are derived form the original Guiding PRINCIPLES presented to Guiders by the founder, Baden Powell, over 80 years ago:-
- To do my Duty to God & my country
- To help other people at all times
- To obey the Guide Law
THE CYGNET GUIDE PROMISE
I ……………….. Promise to love God and to love other people.
(Cygnet Guides make this Promise together as a group).
THE BRIGIN GUIDE PROMISE
On my honour, with the Grace of God, I ………………. Promise to do my best to serve God and His Church, to help other people at all times and to keep the Brigin Law.
THE GUIDE PROMISE
On my honour, with the help of God, I ……………………. Promise to do my best, to serve God and His Church, to be a responsible member of the community, to help other people at all times and to keep the Guide Law.
THE RANGER GUIDE PROMISE
On my honour, with the Grace of God, I ………………… Promise to do my best to serve god and His Church, to help other people at all times and to keep the Guide Law. I further promise as a Ranger Guide to be of service to the community
THE LAW
The GUIDE LAW represents guidelines for a way of life; it sets a standard which every guide strives to her best to meet. The Guide Law and the Promise are at the heart of Guiding.
THE CYGNET GUIDE LAW
A Cygnet Guide:-
- C- Cares and Shares
- Y- is Young and Special
- G- loves God
- N- is always Neat
- E- Enjoys herself
- T- Tries to be good
THE BRIGIN GUIDE LAW
The Brigin Guide Law is like a number of signposts which show us how to keep our Promise and help us to become more loving & responsible people.
- A Brigin always speaks the truth
- A Brigin promptly obeys with a smile
- A Brigin is helpful and kind
- A Brigin is polite and friendly
- A Brigin is never afraid to do the right thing
- A Brigin does all things for the glory of God
GUIDE & RANGER LAW
The Guide Law is a reminder of the way a Guide should act at home, at school, in the neighbourhood or when on her own. By keeping each part of the Law she is also keeping her Guide Promise. Through following the law thousands of Guides in various parts of the world are united. Living the Guide Law makes a difference to the Guide as it makes her a better person.
- A Guide is TRUSTED
- A Guide is LOYAL
- A Guide is HELPFUL
- A Guide is FRIENDLY
- A Guide is always POLITE & CONSIDERATE
- A Guide is KIND to everyone and respects all living things
- A Guide is OBEDIENT
- A Guide is CHEERFUL
- A Guide has COURAGE. She is never afraid to do the right thing
- A Guide is TIDY. She takes care of her belongings and those of other people.
- A Guide is SELF-CONTROLLED in thought, word and deed
- A Guide does all things for The Glory of GOD
